CNS to Host Newman Renovation Forum on Nov 9
 October 29, 2009

Greetings,

On Tuesday, December 8, Needham voters will be asked to consider a $27.4 million debt-exclusion override to Proposition 2 ½ in order to renovate the Newman School.  On Monday, November 9, Citizens for Needham Schools will host an informational meeting on the Newman Renovation Project.  Please attend this meeting so that you can cast an informed vote on Tuesday, December 8.

Newman Renovation Forum: Monday, November 9

CNS is pleased to be hosting a Community Forum on the Newman Renovation Project.  The forum will be held on:

Monday, November 9
7:30 p.m.
Needham Historical Society
Presentations by School Committee, Board of Selectmen, and Together for Needham Representatives

The purpose of the forum is to provide an opportunity for residents to ask questions about the scope and budget, understand why each item included is considered to be fiscally prudent, and know how your vote on December 8 will impact all of the other capital improvement projects planned for Needham.

We urge you to attend. It is critical that residents of Needham understand the financial and logistical impact of this ballot question. If the override does not pass, Needham will lose the Massachusetts School Building Authority contribution of roughly $8.6 million toward the Newman project. Needham will then have to fund the entire cost of any Newman repairs. That financial burden will delay or put at risk other capital improvement projects.

Together for Needham, Together for Newman

A ballot question committee has formed to promote the passage of the Newman override: Together for Needham, Together for Newman.

If you would like to help the campaign, here are 5 things you can do:

  • Visit the School Department website at Needham Public Schools to learn the facts about the renovation project
  • Visit the website www.togetherforneedham.org to sign up for email updates and volunteer opportunities, donate to the Together for Needham campaign, and indicate that you will vote YES on December 8
  • Forward this email to your friends, neighbors and family and ask them to get educated and to get involved
  • Contact your Town Meeting Members and ask them to vote yes on the Newman warrant question at the November 2nd Special Town Meeting
  • Join Together for Needham on Facebook
